Kakunodate is an old samurai town with many original and restored samurai era buildings.
Walking its streets is fascinating. It is kind of like going back in a time warp to the samurai era. Many of the manhole covers in Kakunodate have a samurai figures on them, a tribute to Kakunodate's past.
